Sunset Walks & Finals Week: My Favorite Study Break
Finals week is in full swing, and while I’ve been living off flashcards and cold brew, I’ve also picked up something that’s actually helping me stay sane: sunset walks.
There’s just something about stepping outside when the sky turns pastel that makes everything feel a little more manageable. It gives my brain a break from the screen, lets my eyes rest, and reminds me that the world is still moving, even if my to-do list is a mile long. And yes, science backs it up – just 10 minutes of walking can lift your mood and reduce anxiety (Health Promotion Perspectives, 2018), and a Stanford study found that walking in nature calms the part of your brain that’s responsible for stress and overthinking.
Even better? Being outside around sunset helps regulate your circadian rhythm, according to the Sleep Foundation, which means better sleep—something we all need during finals. I’ve been taking advantage of Miami’s amazing walking spots, and honestly, even a quick stroll around the block makes a difference. Sunset walks feel like a little reset button: low effort, no cost, and surprisingly effective.
So if you’re feeling the finals pressure, I highly recommend trying it – it’s been a small but powerful way to take care of myself in the middle of all the chaos.

Mouth Taping: What It Is & Why People Swear by It
Mouth taping is exactly what it sounds like—taping your mouth shut (gently!) before bed to encourage nasal breathing while you sleep. It might sound a little strange at first, but it’s become a popular wellness trend for a reason. The idea is that breathing through your nose is more natural and beneficial for your body, especially during sleep.
Benefits of mouth taping:
Can improve oral health – Less mouth breathing means less risk of dry mouth, cavities, and bad breath.
Improves sleep quality – Nasal breathing helps regulate oxygen and can lead to deeper, more restful sleep.
Reduces snoring and dry mouth – Breathing through your nose keeps airways more stable and saliva levels balanced.
Supports better oxygen intake – Nasal breathing filters and humidifies air, leading to improved oxygen delivery.
